My father was a self-employed contractor most of his life. He installed residential driveways and concrete patios. I am 51 years old and I spent 29 years in the construction industry working for larger construction companies that designed and constructed electric power generation plants turnkey. All I know is my father sure could have used a Used Skid Steer loader with backhoe attachment back in the 1960s and 1970s which was his heyday in construction. Back then you had virtually no small excavators that were maneuverable enough to work around existing residential homes. Although he had the smallest Case front end loader on many jobs the machine was more trouble than it was worth. Most times all the excavation would be by manual labor since the Case was too large to get into tight areas and finish most of the job. He did buy a real small baby track loader with backhoe built by Trackmaster who went out of business because the design sucked and it was popping tracks daily. Anyway, what he could have done with a Used Skid Steer would have increased his crew’s productivity exponentially. I hope you do not mind my commentary.
Today, Used Skid Steer loaders are common. It is really quite remarkable all the different attachments available for these machines. Furthermore, they weigh so little a large pick-up truck is powerful enough to haul it to the jobsite on a trailer.
